Parmesan crusted pork chops are a delectable low-carb dish that combines tender pork chops with a crispy, golden crust of Parmesan cheese and flavorful seasonings. This recipe is perfect for individuals with diabetes who are looking for a delicious and satisfying meal option that won’t spike their blood sugar levels.

Parmesan crusted pork chops offer a delightful twist on traditional pork chops by adding a cheesy and crunchy coating. Parmesan Crusted Pork Chop Ingredients

  • Pork Chops: Choose boneless pork chops that are about 1 inch thick for optimal tenderness and flavor. Pork is an excellent source of protein and essential nutrients, including vitamins B6 and B12, zinc, and selenium.
  • Parmesan Cheese: The star of the show! The grated Parmesan cheese adds a wonderful nutty and salty taste and helps create the crispy crust. Parmesan cheese is low in carbohydrates and provides a good amount of protein and calcium.
  • Almond Flour: To achieve a low-carb and gluten-free crust, almond flour is used instead of traditional bread crumbs. Almond flour is high in healthy fats, low in carbs, and adds a lovely nutty flavor.
  • Seasonings: A blend of dried herbs and spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper, enhances the overall flavor profile of the dish.

Preparation Tips

  • Pat dry the pork chops before coating them to ensure the crust adheres well.
  • Preheat the oven to the specified temperature to ensure even cooking and a crispy crust.
  • Use a wire rack placed on a baking sheet to elevate the pork chops while baking. This helps promote airflow and prevents the bottom from becoming soggy.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the pork chops in your favorite low-carb marinade or season them with herbs and spices before coating them.

How to Cook Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (177°C).
  • Combine the grated Parmesan cheese, almond flour, and seasonings in a shallow bowl.
  • Pat dry the pork chops using a paper towel and season them with salt and pepper.
  • Dip each pork chop into the Parmesan mixture, pressing firmly to adhere the coating evenly.
  • Place the coated pork chops on a wire rack set on a baking sheet, ensuring they are not touching.
  • Bake the pork chops in the preheated oven until the crust is golden brown, and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  • Once cooked, remove the pork chops from the oven and allow them to rest for a few minutes before serving.

Safe Temperature for Pork

When cooking pork, it’s crucial to ensure that it reaches a safe internal temperature to eliminate any potentially harmful bacteria and ensure food safety. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends cooking pork to a minimum internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) with a three-minute rest time. This applies to all cuts of pork, including pork chops.

A reliable meat thermometer is essential to measure the internal temperature of the pork accurately. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat, avoiding contact with bones, fat, or the cooking surface. Once the pork reaches the recommended temperature, remove it from the heat source and let it rest for a few minutes. During the resting period, the temperature will continue to rise slightly, and the juices will redistribute, resulting in a juicier and more flavorful pork chop.

What to Serve with Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops

  • Serve the parmesan crusted pork chops with a side of steamed vegetables, such as broccoli or asparagus, for a complete low-carb meal. The vibrant colors and fresh flavors of the vegetables complement the savory pork chops perfectly.
  • Create a delicious dipping sauce by combining Greek yogurt with fresh herbs, lemon juice, and garlic for a tangy and creamy accompaniment. The cool and refreshing dip adds a burst of flavor to each bite.
  • For added flavor, sprinkle some freshly chopped parsley or basil over the pork chops before serving. The herbs add a touch of freshness and elevate the overall presentation of the dish.
  • Try substituting the pork chops with chicken breasts or fish fillets for a variation of this recipe. The crispy Parmesan crust works well with different proteins, allowing you to enjoy this delightful dish in various forms.
