Ingredients
 

  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • ½ teaspoon xanthan gum
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage
  • teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, (optional)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook breakfast sausage until no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon or spatula. Drain the fat.

  • Lower heat to medium-low. Sprinkle xanthan gum over the meat and stir to combine. Add sage and crushed red pepper flakes (optional). Slowly add the chicken broth, stirring frequently.

  • Increase the heat to medium, and bring the broth to a low simmer. Stir frequently, until the mixture has thickened to a gravy-like consistency.

  • Add the heavy cream and stir to combine. Bring the mixture back to a simmer, stirring frequently. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue simmering until the gravy has thickened. Remove from heat. Enjoy!
