Variations

While our low-carb creamy Cajun chicken soup is already bursting with flavor, there are endless ways to customize it to suit your taste preferences. Here are a few variations to consider:

  • Spice level: Adjust the amount of jalapeño and Cajun seasoning to control the heat level of the soup. For those who prefer milder flavors, reduce the amount of spice, or for heat enthusiasts, amp it up with extra jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Protein options: While chicken breast is the star of this dish, feel free to swap it out for other proteins such as shrimp, turkey, or even tofu for a vegetarian option. Just ensure the protein is cooked through before adding it to the soup.
  • Vegetable additions: Get creative with your vegetable additions by incorporating bell peppers, mushrooms, or cauliflower for added texture and nutrition. Simply sauté them along with the garlic and jalapeño before adding the broth.
  • Dairy-free option: For those with dairy sensitivities or preferences, substitute the cream cheese and heavy cream with coconut cream or a dairy-free alternative. This will still provide a creamy texture while keeping the soup dairy-free.
  • Toppings: Experiment with different toppings to garnish your soup. Try avocado slices, crispy fried onions, or a dollop of Greek yogurt for added creaminess.

What to serve with low-carb creamy Cajun chicken soup

Here are some tasty sides to enjoy with your soup:

  • Low-carb bread or crackers: Enjoy a slice of almond flour bread or a few keto-friendly crackers on the side for a bit of crunch and to soak up every last drop of soup.
  • Salad: Balance out the richness of the soup with a light and refreshing salad. Opt for a simple green salad with vinaigrette dressing or a Caesar salad with crunchy romaine lettuce and Parmesan cheese.
  • Roasted vegetables: Serve a side of roasted vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, or asparagus for added color, flavor, and nutrients.
  • Cauliflower rice: For a low-carb alternative to traditional rice, serve the soup over a bed of cauliflower rice. It adds a satisfying texture while keeping the meal light and carb-conscious.
  • Cheese platter: Create a cheese platter with an assortment of cheeses, nuts, and olives for a sophisticated and satisfying accompaniment to your soup.
